How to migrate your Wix website or shopping cart to Shopify

Mar 21, 2023 | Shopify, Shopping Carts

If you’re reading this, you’re probably considering migrating your website from Wix to Shopify. As someone who has gone through this process with clients many times myself, I can tell you that it can be a bit daunting at first. However, with a little bit of preparation and some patience, it’s definitely doable.

In this article, I’ll walk you through the steps we took to migrate client websites from Wix to Shopify.

Step 1: Set up your Shopify account

The first step in migrating from Wix to Shopify is to set up your Shopify account. If you haven’t done so already, head over to the Shopify website and sign up for an account. Once you’ve created your account, you’ll be taken to the Shopify dashboard, where you can start building your new website.

Step 2: Choose a Shopify theme

Next, you’ll need to choose a theme for your new Shopify website. Shopify has a wide range of themes to choose from, many of which are customizable to suit your needs. You can preview each theme before choosing one, so take your time to find one that fits your brand and style.

Step 3: Export your content from Wix

Before you can import your content into Shopify, you’ll need to export it from Wix. To do this, log in to your Wix account and navigate to the “Site” menu. From there, select “Settings” and then “Site History.” You’ll then see an option to “Export Site” – click on this and follow the prompts to download your site’s content.

Step 4: Import your content into Shopify

Once you’ve exported your content from Wix, you can import it into Shopify. To do this, go to the “Import” section of your Shopify dashboard and select “Wix.” You’ll then be prompted to upload the file you downloaded from Wix.

Shopify will then guide you through the process of importing your content, including your pages, images, and products. Depending on the size of your site, this may take a while, but be patient and let the process run its course.

Step 5: Set up your payment and shipping options

Once your content has been imported into Shopify, it’s time to set up your payment and shipping options. Shopify offers a wide range of payment and shipping options, so choose the ones that work best for your business. You can also set up tax rates and shipping zones to ensure that your customers are charged the correct amount.

Step 6: Test your website

Before launching your new Shopify website, it’s important to test it thoroughly to make sure everything is working as it should. This includes testing your payment and shipping options, making sure your pages and images are loading correctly, and checking for any errors or broken links.

You can do this by previewing your site in Shopify and going through the checkout process yourself. This will help you identify any issues that need to be fixed before your site goes live.

Step 7: Launch your new website

Once you’ve tested your site and made any necessary adjustments, it’s time to launch it! You can do this by setting your site to “Live” in your Shopify dashboard. Make sure to update any links on your old Wix site to point to your new Shopify site, and notify your customers of the change.

In conclusion, migrating from Wix to Shopify can seem like a daunting process, but it’s definitely doable if you follow the steps above. Make sure to take your time, test your site thoroughly, and be patient with the process. With a little bit of effort, you can have your new Shopify website up and running in no time!
