Shopify Product Collections & Tags
Product tags allow you to create Collections to organize, sort, and display products. Use the tags to thoroughly describe each product. A Collection then allows you to group products using the tags. To view and edit collections navigate to:
Shopify Dashboard → Products → Collections
Each tag name needs to be a standalone description. Each product normally uses multiple tags. From the Shopify dashboard navigate to Products → Products (then select a specific product) → Tags to display and edit the product tags. This table contains product tag names and descriptions.
Shopify Tag Notes
Tags should describe an individual product and are normally singular. Each product should use as many tags as required to describe that product. For example, a CD in an eCommerce music store might contain tags such as music + CD + multiset + classical + Beethoven. Using these tags you could create Collection to display all music (tag: music), all CDs (tags: music + CD), or all classical CDs composed by Beethoven (tags: music + CD + classical + Beethoven). Try to anticipate how products may be grouped in the future and tag them appropriately. You can always add more detailed sorting in the future if products are tagged properly.
Importing Tags into Shopify
When importing product data do NOT use Firefox! The import does not work consistently with Firefox. Google Chrome is recommended when importing data using CSV files.

Audio (for audio books, etc.) Book Cassette Comic Gift Certificate LP Movie Set (music sets, video series, etc.) Single (for CD and other singles) |
These tags describe the major media type.

Choose the music genre(s). Note that you may use multiple tags.

| Video Genres | Action
Adventure Animation Biography Classics Collector (collector sets) Comedy Crime Disney Documentary Drama Family Fantasy Foreign Holiday Horror Musical Music (music video) Mystery Romance Science Fiction Thriller TV Mini (TV mini series) TV Series (TV series set) TV Movie War Western |
Choose the tags that best describe the video. Note that you may use multiple tags.

| Other Tags | Weekly Special | This tag to designate the product as a weekly special (use “Weekly Specials” collection). |
You can use Collections to display products based on the tag values. In the future you may want to show fine levels of detail when displaying product Collections. Be sure to use the EXACT spelling for the tags. For example, if you display products using a “Blu-Ray” Collection then this collection will NOT display media marked as “Blue-Ray”, “BluRay”, “blueray”, etc.
Collection examples:
[Music + Country] to show all Country music on all forms of media (CD, cassette, LP, etc.)
[Music + Country + CD] to show all Country music on CD
[Movie + Music + Holiday + DVD] to show all holiday music videos on DVD
